Planning Board rejects Historic Commission proposal; sets February hearing on bylaw recodification

NEW MARLBOROUGH — Planning Board votes down Historic Commission proposal for village construction review. The four-member board present, Chair Bob Hartt, Jordan Archey, Christian Stovall, and Becky Wilkinson, rejected the measure on grounds that mandatory Historic Commission input could worsen affordable housing constraints and limit architectural creativity. The board confirmed a February 24 public hearing on bylaw recodification and delegated Chair Hartt to coordinate advance posting and notification to neighboring towns and regional planners.
The board also unanimously approved the annual $900 budget and endorsed a three percent cost-of-living salary adjustment for the secretary.
